In August 2022 I was invited to be a part of a team of Archeologists that had been working in Petra for the past 9 years. I was uncertain what I was going to encounter and what my job was going to be.
The massive canyons of the sites are overwhelming and the details that interested the Archeologists were almost invisible from a distance.
I decided to draw a panoramic view of the site from different angles in order to capture the details that otherwise are not seen in a picture or from a single point of view.
This was an interpretation of the way water was recollected thousands of years ago by the Nabateans.
In the morning I would draw these huge landscapes that required a lot of attention. To rest my eyes and mind I decided to make portraits of the locals in the afternoon. This is Fatima, the woman who prepared our meals.
Finding the correct angles and view points was tricky and hiding from the sun was a challenge.
This experience was gift, I will always remember this 40 days in the desert of Jordan, traveling in my mind through time in this beautiful place.
